Message from the President - Sandra "Sandy" Haugner
Welcome - CNH LWML - Lutheran Women in Mission

July 2009

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ

Returning from LWML Convention, Portland 2009

The women of the LWML have just returned from our national convention in Portland, Oregon.  Over 3,200 women and men gathered together to do the business of our organization.  A new mission goal of $1,825,000 was set by the voting body.  Seventy percent of this amount will go toward the mssion projects selected.  You can view these projects at the LWML site.  We will post them here soon.

I am pleased that over 200 women and men from our CNH distirct attended the convention.  I had a chance to meet up with many of them and they all seemed to be soaking it all in, busy with worship, servant events, pledge walks, fellowship, and even a little "shopping".  God is good!

Our young women representatives to the convention, Annie Bosel and Mary Gunishaw, did an awesome job of representing our California-Nevada-Hawaii LWML.  They were kept very busy by the Leader Development Committee and by your president.  I thank both of them for attending on our behalf and I know that they have much to tell us about their experience.  You will be hearing from these young leaders in the near future.  What a blessing our Committee on Young Women have become.  Look for great things to come from these women in our district.

A very big thank you to our counselor, Rev. Norm Milz, who attended the convention as counselor to the CNH LWML delegation.  He too was awesome in his service to the women of the LWML.

All of our favorite people and more were in Portland - Jan Wendorf, of course, our national president, was on hand to bring us the reminder to be Women of the Word, Women in the Word, Women Walking with Jesus.  This continues to be Jan's wish for us.  We will hear more about this in the future.

We saw and visited with Jan Struck our presenter from our 2008 Bakersfield Convention.  Jan will be with us at our Women's Conference in Sacramento on November 7, 2009.  Registration form is now available on our website.  Do not miss this opporunity to fellowship with the women of the CNH LWML and to hear the "life message" that Jan will bring to us.

Also on hand in Portland was Dina Vendetti as music director.  Dina will join us next year in San Jose at our CNH LWML Convention as our music director and our choir director.  What a joy it will to be with her again.

And I am pleased that Peggy Turnipseed will indeed be able to join us as our Inspirational speaker in San Jose in 2010.  Peggy is from Texas, has a wonderful smile, a twinkle in her eye, and a heart almost as big as Texas.  She brings a special joy to me every time I am with her.  I know that she has a message for you all.

As LWML'ers, we remain Women in Mission in our congregations, societies, zones, and district serving Him every day spreading the Word with Love throughout our district, our nation, and the world.  Personally, I have never been so busy! I pray this is so for you also.  God expects us to be at work every day, even when in the "vacation" mode, in the Word, spreading the Good News!

GOAL 2008 - 2010

Our goal this biennium is to raise up new and renewed societies all around our California-Nevada-Hawaii District.  Can you just see a society in every church?  Halleluia, is that not an awsome vision. Should Lutheran women not all be in mission?  And in the Word, Walking with Jesus as examples to all? How can you help?  Keep your sisters in prayer, invite the women in your congregations to join us in our mission, speak well of the work of the LWML and lift up the leaders of our organization daily, and participate when ever and where ever you can.   Please partner with us in this effort.

LWML NEWS:

LWML Mite Update

We are still working on Grant #11 for $10,000 for the Hispanic Ministries at Good Shephered Lutheran Church in Hayward.  We will know soon if we have met our goal of funding this project.  Do not miss sending in your donations this summer.  We as His servants to not take the summer off!

I was pleased to present Grant #10 in the amount of $5,500 to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Rocklin (formerly located in Roseville).    This grant will be used for outreach into the community.

Please see our list of grants below my message for those projects yet to be funded.

As the economy tightens, remember to put a little extra in your Mite Box.   And send your mites in every month!

The Quarterly

Quarterly subscription money is past due.   Notices have been going out.   When subscriptions are not paid by the local society, the money for the society's subscription is paid out of Mites. In the future, unpaid subscriptions will be cancelled.  Do not let your subscription be cancelled: remit today; call Karen about any difficutlties or hardships.  Every single nickel or dime that goes to pay for society subscriptions from our Mites, is money that does not go into the mission field.  Let's get this changed today!
