Steinbeck Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Steinbeck Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1970 following the death of Mrs. Karl Steinbeck. Verna was Mission Hospice Chairman for the CNH LWML for many years, serving as host to missionaries and their families as they passed through San Francisco. This fund is designated to assist in the higher education of children of overseas missionaries who attend a college or university in the United States.
School Year Fall 2009/Spring of 2010 - We have approved scholarships in the amount of $4,000 which will be divided evenly between 10 students who are the children of missionaries serving oversees for the LCMS.
One of the convention offerings at our 2010 CNH LWML Convnetion in San Jose, April 30-May 2, will be collected for this scholarship fund. You may also donate to this fund at any time by sending a check to our Financial Secretary, Ramona Pekarek. Make your checks out to the LWML and designate it for the "Steinbeck Fund".
HISTORY:
In May of 1993 our CNH LWML created an Endowment Fund, the CNH District Endowment Fund. The LWML asked the LCMS Foundation to manage the fund for us. The distribution of the total net income of the Fund would occur at least annually to the CNH LWML. $5,000.00 was required to begin the Endowment Fund.
In 1997 the CNH LWML Board of Directors voted to start the Endowment Fund with moneys from the Betty Paul estate, moneys from the Maritime Ministry Fund (a former Mite Project that had lain dormant), and moneys from the LWML overage. The total amount, $5,000.00, was the beginning of the Endowment Fund for the CNH LWML.

WHAT IS AN ENDOWMENT FUND?
A fund that generates income to provide funding for ministry. Income comes from the interest generated from the principal. The income generated from a growing endowment fund will fund more inreach and outreach ministries. The voting members of the CNH LWML Board of Directors make all decisions regarding the use of income generated from the endowment. The Endowment Fund continues to grow with personal gifts from you as an LWML member. This gift may be a direct immediate gift, a gift from yout Christian Estate Plan, or through other gift options.
